Rainhard Raab, BSc

Given the rapid development of wind energy infrastructure, accurate assessments of collision risk at wind turbines are essential for efficient project planning and timely implementation. Precise and legally compliant calculation models are required to reconcile species protection with the demand for environmentally friendly energy generation.
Rainhard Raab is a leading expert in the field of calculating collision risks for birds at wind turbines. Together with other experts, including Dr. Moritz Mercker, he contributed to the development of the collision risk model (RKR model) for the red kite.
As a project manager, he contributes his extensive knowledge and experience in the context of approval procedures for wind turbines in Germany and Austria. Together with his team, he prepares nature conservation expert opinions, environmental impact assessments and telemetry reports. His team also carries out mapping work on fauna and flora and designs habitat modelling maps for various project plans.
In addition, he supervises scientific work on the red kite (LIFE EUROKITE) and publications.
Rainhard Raab studied business management and business law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria. His specializations include entrepreneurship, innovation and corporate management.
Since February 2019, he has been part of the TB Raab GmbH team, where he is a partner and team leader responsible for modelling habitat suitability and bird collision risks arising from infrastructure projects.
TB Raab GmbH relies on state-of-the-art technologies, including the analysis of several thousand tagged birds, and uses advanced methods such as the Integrated Step Selection Function (ISSF), the Brownian Bridge Model (BBM) and MaxEnt.
